James R. Hicks

James R. Hicks has taught small groups for over 40 years. He holds a D.Min. in Practical Theology from Christian Theological Seminary, with a dissertation titled “Discipleship Through Small Groups.” He also earned an M.Div. from Nazarene Theological Seminary and a B.A. from Trevecca Nazarene University. He completed training in the Alpha program, Willow Creek small groups, and the School of Large Church Management. He has used the Dynamics of Discipleship program and other curricula. He served on the Southwest Indiana NDI District Council for 32 years, including 10 as president.

Before retiring, he pastored his final church—located in a university setting—for 32 years. His ministry included discipling a wide range of people from both churched and unchurched backgrounds in traditional and non-traditional settings. His passion is mentoring new believers toward spiritual maturity. His churches have often served as sending churches for pastors and lay leaders.

Since 2018, Hicks has been the Educational Field Coordinator for Nazarene Discipleship International in the USA/Canada Region, overseeing the Central USA (Olivet) Region. He lives in Bloomington, Indiana.
